Shen Zirong Style – Xinyi Hunyuan Taiji Yangshenggong
Bagua Boxing of Emperor Fuxi (Fuxi Baguaquan), also called Pre-heaven Bagua Boxing, is a rare internal martial art practiced in rural areas of Henan Province. It belongs to Kunlun branch of Chinese martial arts. Its guiding theory is based on Pre-heaven Eight Trigrams (Xiantian Ba Gua) created by legendary emperor Fuxi. Hence the style in its movements and fighting strategy uses the idea of Yin and Yang – combines movement with stillness, fast movements with slow ones; “slow movement is like movement of the sun and the moon, fast movement is like that of meteors”; when the hand strikes it is “like an arrow leaving the bow”, the hand returns as if “the tips of fingers were burnt by fire”. The style is practiced along straight lines, emphasizes power releasing, dodging, opening, moving fast; whole body is used in movement and the power has to reach toes and fingers. The material is demonstrated by 74-year old Gao Tingyi, expert of the style and its inheritor in 6th generation. Mr Gao has been practicing martial arts since the age of 6 and learnt Bagua Boxing from famous master Yang Tingbi. He is accompanied by his son Gao Yixue. This set is a rare opportunity to see a martial art that has never left its natural environment of Chinese countryside and hence has never been “polluted” by the need to make movements better looking and more flowery so that they would please more “sophisticated” city people or judges in competitions.
Please note that Bagua Boxing presented on this set is not the same style as Baguazhang (Eight Trigram Palm)
The instructions cover not only the choreography of movements but also their fighting applications.
